A composition for UNM’s John Donald Robb Composers’ Symposium in 2012. Performed at Small Engine in Barelas, N.M. The piece focuses on the practice of music students, who consume beta blockers to steady the hands and calm the nerves. For this performance, I consumed a beta blocker and monitored my heart with a cardio mic. It also incorporated clips of music students I interviewed who’ve used—or considered using—beta blockers.
